Denis Withy is the owner of Laser Electrical Papakura and he’s also the proud owner of this stunning 1970 Boss Mustang 302. Like many Laser members, Withy is looking forward to the Laser Plumbing & Electrical Hampton Downs 500 from October 28-29.
“I went to Hampton Downs last year for the 101 and took a couple of clients and we had a great day. For Laser to be involved in the Hampton Downs 500 this year is very exciting. I’ve always loved motorsport, right back to my late teens and early 20s. I remember going to watch the Wellington street races back in the day. I did some motocross myself but never any motor racing.”
“It’s always been a dream of mine to own a Mustang, especially a 1969 or 1970 Mustang. I’ve always loved the shape and the look of those cars. I searched for three years to find one. I did a few trips around the country and ended up finding this one five minutes up the road at Waiuku. It was actually owned by my daughter’s partner’s father!”
“I’ve done a bit of work on it. I did some work on the brakes and overhauled the gearbox and a few other bits and bobs. It’s a 50-year-old piece of machinery and like the rest of us 50-year-olds it’s starting to wear out but it’s just an awesome car. I love it. I bought it to drive it. It sits in the shed during the week but most weekends I try to get it out of the garage and stretch its legs.”
“I haven’t decided if I’ll take it to the Hampton Downs 500 or not but either way I’m looking forward to a great weekend’s racing.”
