2010

2010 – This was a busy year!

To start our engines Hampton Downs hosted the New Zealand Festival of Motor Racing celebrating Bruce McLaren. This was a very memorable event with over 300 National registrations and 100 International Cars making the trip.
We also officially opened on the 24th of January 2010 with a speech and ribbon cutting from His Worship the Mayor of Waikato District, Peter Harris. There were over 24,000 people present to witness the official opening.

The lap record was broken again by Mitch Evans during the NZ Motor Cup weekend in February.

Evans clocked in at 1:01.846, set on lap 12 of the second race with a best speed of 153.090 km/h.
The lap record was previously held by a Formula 5000, driven by Kenny Smith at 1:02.279.

Smith broke the record previously held by a Formula Toyota, driven by Daniel Gaunt at 1.04.7. The record was broken at the NZ Festival of Motor Racing celebrating Bruce McLaren on the 23rd January 2010.

In May 2010 we held a stage of the World Rally Championship! The day was packed with 22,000 people arriving through the day to watch the Super Special Stage. In between the World Rally Championship arriving at 11am and 4pm was saloon car racing and the spectacle of Red Bull supercross bikes and V8 Utes.

The industrial units were completed and the businesses are getting ready to open their doors.

Our onsite Convention Centre and Cafe area were completed in February. This venue set in the heart of the Motorsport Park is an ideal location for events such as product launches, conventions and themed dinners. Hampton’s comfortably seats 300 for a banquet dinner and over 600 for a cocktail function.
