The current record is 59.840 held by Michael Lyons (UK). He was driving a Lola T400 HU7 Formula 5000 during the NZ Festival of Motor Racing celebrating BMW Motorsport on 29th January 2012. The lap record was broken in race 101.

The prior record ws 1:00497 held by Steve Ross in a McRae GM1-009 Formula 5000. This record was made at the NZ Festival of Motor Racing celebrating BMW Motorsport on the 22nd January 2012 during race 51 (same as Michael Lyons below). His top speed during the race was 268.15km per hour.

An earlier record was 1:01.846 held by Mitch Evans. Evans clocked in at set on lap 12 of the second race with a best speed of 153.090 km/h. He broke the previous record during the NZ 2010 Motor Cup in a Formula Toyota.

The first record was 1:02.279 held by a Lola T430 Formula 5000, driven by Kenny Smith. This record was made at the NZ Festival of Motor Racing celebrating Bruce McLaren on the 23rd January 2010. Smith's highest speed was 257.30 kmh and he completed the 8 lap race in only 9:55.174

The top recorded speed remains at 287 kph by Andrew Stroud on his Suzuki!
